SOUTH AFRICAN POET DENNIS BRUTUS ON STEAL THIS RADIO!
Nelson Mandela hid out in Dennis Brutus’ house while the apartheid army searched for him. Then Dennis served hard time in jail with Mandela and other heros of the anti-apartheid freedom struggle, and was a member of the African National Congress.
Today, some of those same South African radicals are opposing a
lawsuit that Dennis Brutus and others have brought in US Federal
Court in New York, which seeks to hold multi-billion dollar
corporations accountable for their collaboration with apartheid and
profiteering off of slave labour.

Dennis Brutus on apartheid, capitalism and socialism (part 2)
Part 2 of Mitch Cohen's interview with South African activist and Poet Dennis Brutus continues. He discusses how big business benefited from apartheid, the evolution of the African National Congress and poetry. Recording engineer Shaune Velazquez asks some tough questions of the two activists in regard to their ideas on some of the differences between capitalism and socialism. Can capitalism work at all? Is it greed or capitalism that is the problem? Can socialism work or is the answer maybe “a combination of regulated capital and with the emphasis on a society fabric built on social values”?
This show is much more than just the answer to a couple of questions because the life of Dennis Brutus is absolutely fascinating. At the ripe age of 84 Dennis Brutus is committed to and continues to peacefully fight hard for justice and civil rights.
